Sv. Jur Cultural Centre

The basic mass of the building is a “barn”, which is enclosed around a courtyard. The halls of the cultural and social centre are pushed into it, rising above the ground plane of the roof. They thus form the dominant elements of the building, which make it clear that this is not an ordinary civic building, but an important cultural object. The design combines traditional elements and contemporary materials. However, always with an emphasis on context. The wooden window frames, the plastered façade or the exposed wooden roof truss are all elements that can be found in the surrounding buildings. In contrast, the stenciled fibre cement roofing is a material that is contemporary, but blends into its surroundings through its colour and ability to age.
